Thirteen regions, three mountain ranges
France was redrawn in 2016: twenty-two regions became thirteen, and this plate shows the new map, from Hauts-de-France in the north to Occitanie and Provence in the south. Under the borders the relief does the teaching. The Paris basin in the middle is almost flat, the old volcanic Massif Central rises in the centre-south, and the Alps and the Pyrenees close the south-east and the south-west. Corsica comes out as its own mountain island in the Mediterranean.
