Four nations, England in nine regions
Four nations would make a lopsided puzzle, with England bigger than the other three together, so England is cut into its nine official regions, from the North East to the South West, and London is one of them. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are whole. The relief tells the rest: the Scottish Highlands, the Pennines running down the middle of northern England like a spine, the Welsh mountains, and the low, flat East of England facing the North Sea.
