Utah is where the straight-line survey grid meets the Colorado Plateau, and the collision is the whole story of the plate. County lines run dead straight across canyon country that clearly has opinions of its own. The Wasatch Front stands up along the western edge with the Great Salt Lake beside it, and the southeast corner is a maze of plateaus and river gorges that no ruler acknowledges.
